| Your first Orthodontic
visit |
|
At your first visit the Orthodontist will examine your face,
mouth and teeth. Moulds may be taken of your teeth, along
with necessary X-rays. We will then be able to provide you
with a detailed treatment plan. No actual treatment will
be carried out at this appointment.
For orthodontic treatment to be successful, it needs the
total cooperation of the patient (and parents for children’s
orthodontic treatment). On average treatment usually takes
12-24 months to complete. Some complicated orthodontic problems
may require slightly longer.
All treatment is then followed by a period of retention to
hold the teeth in their new positions. It is important that
during your orthodontic treatment you continue to see your
own dentist for regular dental check ups.
In case of acute problems with your braces please phone
the practice and follow the instructions given to resolve
the problem. Please note that a broken brace does not constitute
an emergency but the surgery needs to be informed of the
breakage.
